Figures will be THE conversation piece of any collection and interior! Today we are excited to offer for sale a very rare and whimsical pair of large 1950's ARP Italy Pixie gold gilded wall sculptures! The company's signature look featured campy decorative figures with elongated fingers and bodies styled in the manner of Spanish Renaissance painter, sculptor and architect El Greco. The pair of figures is finely crafted and detailed of mixed materials, creating a visibly stimulating composition full of movement.

Each wall sculpture features a fanciful rocaille Louis XV Rococo composite wall shelf brightly gilded in two-tone gold. Each figure majestically rests atop each shelf. The set features a pair of beautiful Pixie-like figures. A pixie is a mythical creature of folklore.

Pixies are considered to be particularly concentrated in the high moorland areas around Devon and Cornwall, suggesting some Celtic origin for the belief and name and were gaining popularity in the 19th century. The right wall figure is a regal and tall blue-eyed and golden-haired woman with pale skin and rosy cheeks, with a pixie-like visage, wearing a figure-hugging Venetian Renaissance-style gold and textured damask dress accented with dark emerald green velvet fabric and hair piece, all adorned with luminous faux-pearl accents.

The left figure features a pretty Venetian gondolier wearing tight gilded damask pants with high socks and buckled narrow shoes, the young man wears a golden vest with high ruffled neck piece and is wearing an emerald green velvet jacket adorned with luminous faux-pearl accents. The figure holds a gilded rowing oar accented with dangling crystals. Majestic gilded tole branches rise and meander from behind each figure, creating a dramatic three-dimensional look.

The tip of each curled leaf features a sparkling. Crystal teardrop which is a type of crystal prism that has the refraction effect applied to it. The term "Aurora" refers to the Aurora Borealis (or Northern Lights), a natural phenomena that occurs in higher latitudes, toward the poles, creating a magnificent display of color in the night sky.

The female figure is marked on the back of the corset "ARP". Pieces present beautifully and are in very good vintage condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age. There is minimal oxidation, minor loss to gilding, and some small chips to tole, bases, and gilded elements on figures.

Some fingers have small stable fractures. There is minor fading to fabric elements.

In general however, the figures are well preserved and look great, and the minor signs (only noticable upon close inspection) of age only add to their vintage appeal. This large and colorful whimsical pair of wall figures (or one might call them non-illuminated sonces) will truly be a conversation starter! Super fun and high-camp, these tacky-chic (in a good way) figures will add retro kitsch rococo style to any traditional or modern interior!
