EXQUISITE MID CENTURY MODERN ITALIAN DESIGN! Presenting an exceptionally large and impressive Mid Century vintage Bitossi Italian pottery lamp base. This lamp is beautifully decorated with two wide bands detailled with a boldly impressed repeated geometric pattern finished with striking horizontal bands of glossy rimini blue, mustard and green. The body of the lamp has been finished in a flat matte earthy brown glaze which allows the wonderfully chunky textured nature of the pottery to show through. Bands of impressed circles stylishly edge the glossy glazed sections, beautifully unifying the design. The contrast between the bright glossy glazes and earthy textured sections is exceptionally attractive.

The exquisite rich and glossy glazes have a magnificent thick, glassy nature while the striking impressed pattern and textured body adds an appealing tactile element to the design. This monumental lamp has an appealing clean-lined modernist form with a sleek conical-shaped body leading to a concave curved top section which combine to create a wonderfully impressive sculptural piece. The original cream toned bakelite fitting beautifully adds to the charm of this authentically vintage example.

SIZE: This impressive Bitossi lamp stands a whopping 500mms or 19.5 inches tall excluding the bakelite fitting, 590mms or 23.25 inches tall including the fitting and measures 190mms or 7.5 inches in diameter at its widest. This substantial piece weighs 4.725 kgs unpackaged. CONDITION: This piece is presented in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There is the odd incredibly minor scuff to the earthy brown glaze noticeable only on extremely close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy.

The glossy glaze retains a magnificent rich and lustrous finish. This lamp is in good working order with an Australian plug but as with any vintage electrical.

MARKS: This piece is beautifully marked to the base with a brushed mark reading "5028/50 Italy".
