MCM FunLion2 Vintage Marcello Fantoni for Raymor 8 Vase Italian Art Pottery. Through the 50s and 60s he made many cubist-inspired vases and ewers painted in colors bordered by. Lines scratched through the paint in a manner evoking Picasso and Braque. Along with figurative and abstract works, the 60s also saw Fantoni creating brutalist pieces with edgy, angular shapes.
His work has been displayed at. MoMA New York, Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York, Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Fine Art of Boston, Victoria and Albert Museum of London, Royal Scottish Museum of Edinburg, Museums of Modern Art of Tokyo and Kyoto, International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, National Bargello Museum and Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe of the Uffizi in Florence. This fun, funky, Italian Brutalist lion vase is so clever - sgraffito defines his mane and body fur; he is hand painted. He is in excellent condition with no nicks, cracks for scratches that I could see. This piece is signed, Fantoni Italy for Raymor.There is a Raymor sticker on the back, but the price and model number details have faded away with time. There are yellow felt feet glued on the bottom. The vase is 6" high x 8 1/4" wide x 2 1/4 deep. The interior of the vase as an aqua glaze; no water marks are visible.
